Belly @ 9:30 Club – September 29th 2018

Belly @ 930 Club 2018

When last we caught Belly, it was back in 2016 at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC.   The atmospheric alternative rockers had reformed for a run of shows after more than twenty years of lying dormant.  At the time, fans were excited for the opportunity to witness old friends re-connecting and performing music together again, while remaining cautiously optimistic that there would be more to come. Luckily Belly’s dedicated fanbase wouldn’t have to wait long.  The band, having re-ignited their creative spark, returned to the studio in 2017 and backed by a successful PledgeMusic campaign, released their third album, Dove, earlier this year.  The new album has been well received by fans and critics, and armed with new songs, Belly ventured back out on the road.  We made sure we were there when they returned to the 9:30 Club this past Saturday on the home stretch of the current tour.

Without an opening act, the reunited lineup featuring Tanya Donelly on vocals and guitar, Tom and Chris Gorman on guitar and drums, and Gail Greenwood on bass, split the show into two ten song sets played out over the course of almost two hours.  They sounded tighter than ever, and their exuberant performance was matched by the unbridled enthusiasm of the devoted super-fans spread throughout the venue.
