Jazz artist and composure Brian Culbertson brought his Color of Love Tour to Mesa Arts Center, Mesa Arizona.
Brian Culbertson is one of the most corky jazz musicians I ever seen perform, from the style of hair and dress to his music. He’s very energetic, into his craft and engaging with the crowd.
It’s not often that Brian brings out the grand piano. He usually just plays the keyboard but for the Color of Love Tour which is also the name of his new album dedicated to his wife Michelle of 20 years he wanted the audience to feel the mood of the CD.
He explained to the crowd that you wrote this album in Chicago in one month last year, where he was feeling very creative. Leaving the windows open in the studio and having candles burning to put him in the mood of romance. He warns anyone who listen to this album it’s not or anytime play, when you’re feeling in the mood or you just need to relax, but don’t play it before you going to go workout it’s not something you should do.
As far as his stage performance very well executed he has three video monitors that are in sync with the songs that they’re playing so you get visual and sonic stimulation throughout the show. The lighting is excellent I’m sure the guys who put it together took hours to dial it in just right and are very proud of their work
The keyboardist also has another passion project which is his Napa Valley Jazz getaway which has expanded into the downtown Chicago area. As Brian puts it Napa is about Wine & jazz pairing a great combination if you ask me.
