It was a night of guitar bliss for the sold-out crowd at the Commodore Ballroom, there to see the reunited original lineup of Dinosaur Jr. They are known as one of the loudest live bands, and many fans who did not wear earplugs had their fingers in their ears! Even with good ear protection I could hear ringing the next day.
This is one of the most amazing power trios I’ve seen, and for one song they even brought out a second drummer and another guitar player. It was an intense and unforgettable experience. Closing off the concert was their well-known cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”, with the crowd singing along (even though you could barely hear them over the roaring guitar) and more extended guitar solos by J Mascis.
