Durham NC based musician Phil Cook has made the rounds in a number of bands including Megafaun, Hiss Golden Messenger, and DeYarmond Edison. Three years ago, he stepped into the spotlight and released Southland Mission, his first solo album as a singer-songwriter. The album, recorded with a group of friends he dubbed the Guitarheels, was a joyful mix of folk rock, gospel, soul, and blues. Since then Phil has been busy writing and recording, and he recently announced that his follow-up album, People Are My Drug, is set to be released on June 1st!
What better way to celebrate the news than with a hometown Saturday night show at the Pinhook! We caught the show and it was a true party. The Pinhook was filled with fans, friends, all there to support Phil and get a first listen to some of the new songs, and the evening didn’t disappoint! Soul and R&B singer-songwriter Tamisha Waden opened.
