Kelowna’s Center Of Gravity festival took over the small Okanagan town this past weekend.

The sun-scorched attendees were treated to staggering acts all weekend.

We were in town to catch day two of three, because of headliners Wu-Tang Clan and other mainstage act Juicy J.

Juicy J was a last minute replacement for original lineup spot holder Action Bronson. Bronson was removed as he had emergency surgery a few days prior to the event and had to bow out.

Juicy J, of Three Six Mafia fame, stepped out on to the stage and was greeted by the raucous screams of an eager audience.

He put on a captivating set that culminated with him inviting various females from the crowd to join him on stage. The result was a twerking and booty bounce competition that most of the onlookers seemed to enjoy quite vocally.

After a bit of a reset and with the sun setting in the West, an entirely original-member lineup of Staten Island rap group Wu-Tang Clan stormed out before the audience. In recent touring configurations, it was uncertain if we would actually see all nine original members take the stage, but there they were; RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Kill, and Cappadonna.

The overzealous mass of attendees spat verse after verse with each song. The intensity of the set grew with each song.

Method Man was truly the keystone to the band. He completed them, playing the leader role and taking the reins whenever things started to soften at all, even for a mere second.

The sun had nestled itself behind the mountains and through the night air you could hear a sea of thousands screaming – “Wu Tang Clan Ain’t Nothing To Fuck With”. It was a beautiful moment, one none of those present will soon forget.

The small lake-side day festival has snowballed into something pretty special. Its placement in late July makes it a great destination event for those looking to take in from the overflowing chalices that are the EDM and hip-hop worlds. Each year they are able to book a series of great contenders that make it worthwhile for out-of-towners to schlep their way to K-Town.

The organizers of the event have things running like clockwork and manage to keep the attendees happy and hydrated, as well as keeping the external perimeter of the event clean.

If you are looking for something to do next summer, mark it on your calendars and book the time off now, I am sure Center of Gravity 2019 will be something you should fuck with.
