The Whigs Are Underrated

Some bands are just overlooked by the masses. Some times you will find a phenomenal band that blows almost every other one out of the water, but for some reason they just don’t ever seem to get the recognition they deserve. One such band is The Whigs.

The Whigs are a three-piece out of Athens, Georgia. They have a solid garage rock sound, and they deliver a live experience that will get your heart race. The key to the bands live energy is the lead singer Parker Gispert’s intensity. He is the perfect kind of front man in that he gets completely swallowed up in his own performance. He seems to be fueled by a bit of chaos. This is not to take anything away from the other members of the band, both Julian Dorio and Timothy Deaux are also extremely driven by that same piss-and-vinegar spirit. Watching them live is a real treat.

If you take a look at their set from Letterman back in 2008, you can see some of this intensity. I would say this is actually a very toned down performance, but you can still see that electricity flowing through them.

I was lucky enough to bear witness to this trio back in 2009 when they opened both of the Kings Of Leon, (KOL), shows at what is not Rogers Arena. I watched, with my jaw dropped, as the band owned the stage and got the crowd stirred up into a frenzy. By the time the members of KOL took the stage the entire arena was a complete zoo. I was left sweaty, battered, and a fan for life. The Whigs had won me over.

Then in 2010 I saw them once again as they opened the show for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the Commodore Ballroom. Again they played an amazing set. The lead singer was all over the stage and seemed possessed by the music. My fan status grew a little more.

Now we find ourselves in the present day, and in a few short weeks we will be seeing The Whigs come to Vancouver. On October 22nd 2012, they will be playing The Rickshaw Theatre and it is going to be glorious.

To top off that awesome news, we are giving away FIVE PAIRS OF TICKETS to their Vancouver show. You heard me, that is FIVE PAIRS of tickets to see The Whigs at the Rickshaw Theatre. If you like free tickets follow this link <-----yes this link!!!.

I am excited. This is going to be an amazing show. The Whigs are underrated and you need to check them out while they are playing small, intimate venues. I am counting down the days until the show. I hope to see you there.
