I have been waiting months to see Cloakroom. The first time I heard their song Bending, I fell in love with their rich, harmonious, echoy, rock..
I arrived at The Cobalt a bit early and caught the opener Soft Haze. They had a crunchy, sharp rock sound that was refreshing to hear. I love rock, sometimes it just needs to be rock and nothing else. They deserve a listen, go check them out.
Then it was time for the Cloakroom set. The three piece took the stage and the second the started the first song, I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. They were even better in person.
They powered through their songs, with a shy aggression, if that even makes sense. They were physically calm, but they were vocally intense.
The house was very empty, but those in attendance were clearly enjoying the set.
This band is kind of a shoegazer, harmonious rock band that we need more of. It feels like the shoegazing may be temporary though, because when the songs pick up in speed they start to get a little rock possession and move about.
