Day 2 of MRG30 @ Cat’s Cradle – July 25th 2019

Stalwart indie label, Merge Records, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.  The North Carolina-based independent record label, founded in 1989 by Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan as an outlet to release music from their band Superchunk as well as other local bands, has made it a habit to celebrate its success every five years.

This year to mark the occasion Merge Records launched a vinyl subscription series called “Born Under a Good Sign,” which included unreleased material from Merge artists on limited edition colored vinyl, bonus seven-inch singles, and more. With a portion of the proceeds benefiting RAICES, a nonprofit that provides legal services to immigrant children, families, and refugees in Texas.   Merge also hosted their traditional hometown multi-day music festival, this year billed as MRG30.  The event kicked off on Wednesday July 24th at the Carolina Theatre in Durham and continued through Saturday at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro.  Unfortunately, we missed the opening day at the Carolina Theatre, but we managed to catch all 3 days at the Cradle.  Check out some photos from the festivities below…
