When French-Cuban musical duo consisting of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz, Ibeyi, was announced to play the Commodore Ballroom, I was ecstatic.
There sound and poetic lyrics have been permeating my playlists for well over a year now and I was hoping to see them live.
Opening the show was R&B singer/producer theMIND. His sound and aesthetic all ties into being dark and emotional. He carries a sort of underground ‘The Weeknd’ vibe. His lighting was conducive to photography but it was beautiful none the less.
Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi took to the stage and continued the heavy-hearted emotional vibe with their intense delivery. Lisa-Kaindé brought tingle-inducing vocals while Naomi belted rhythmic percussion throughout the night. Their intermingled play was powerful and intoxicating.
By the time I left the show was enthralled with the duo’s live play.
The venue wasn’t near capacity and that is sad.
The music these two are producing is changing the face of the industry in multiple facets.
