July Talk have been on the road this fall continuing to promote their self-titled debut album in the US. The Juno Award winning Toronto band has built a large and dedicated following in Canada, and after this latest series of headlining fall dates it appears that they are winning over American audiences as well. Friday night the Bowery Ballroom in New York was packed for the final date of the tour and most likely the start of an extended touring break as the band look to focus on their sophomore album.
Led by charismatic co-lead singers Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay, July Talk are known for their incredible live shows. Having hit the finish line of the tour, the band seemed to have an extra burst of energy that elevated their performance. They played all the fan favorites from the first album and even debuted several new songs. The audience of rabid fans both old and new fed off the energy coming from the stage and roared their approval throughout the show. By the time July Talk brought the show, and ultimately the tour, to a rousing conclusion the entire venue was filled with sweat and smiles.
Leading off the evening’s lineup was local New York band Spirit Animal who delivered a set of rowdy rock with a touch of funk. Their spirited performance got the crowd up and moving. They were followed by the San Diego-based rocking dirty blues duo, Little Hurricane who set a scorching pace for July Talk to follow.
