Matthews Southern Comfort @ Theater Heerlen – February 23rd 2019

Iain Matthews formed Matthews Southern Comfort after leaving Fairport Convention in 1969, and recorded three albums with the group before embarking on a solo career. Matthews reformed the band with a new line-up in 2010, and this revised group released their latest album, Like a Radio, last year. Their show at the Theater Heerlen in Heerlen, Netherlands featured songs from this latest album (including highlights “The Age of Isolation,” “Bits and Pieces,” and the title song) as well as tracks from the earlier incarnation of the band including “Road to Ronderlin” and “Blood Red Roses,” along with several covers including Carole King’s “To Love” and Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock,” a version of which the band hit the singles chart with in 1970.
