Scottish musician James “Midge” Ure is most well known as co-writer (with Bob Geldof) and producer of the 1984 charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, but he has enjoyed a long solo career and has been a member of some influential and well-respected bands. There was no shortage of fan favourites as he played tunes from Ultravox, Visage, and even Thin Lizzy. Now into his 60s, Midge Ure retains his strong singing voice, and considering he is mostly associated with ’80s new wave and synth bands, he is a killer guitar player.
Several times during the concert he had the Rickshaw crowd singing along, and he was clearly loving being up on stage. The final song was a tribute to David Bowie, as they did a stunning cover of “Starman”.
