Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys fame brought his “All American” tour through Vancouver last night.

Opening the show was Calgary-based alt-pop outfit The New Electric.

The 4-piece Canadian support act managed to get the crowd dancing. Their sound was poppy and playful, and the lead singer was confident and charismatic. By the time their set was done the audience was sweaty and ready to receive the headliner.

Mr. Carter took the stage under the veil of darkness. A series of richly colored lights lit the venue and he appeared before his throng of fans with a guitar in hand and a smile on his face.

I was impressed with how consistent his vocals were. He danced all over the stage and rarely missed a note.

The audience were overly excited and kept grabbing at any piece of his clothing or person that happened to enter their reach. But it was never aggressive, it was all fun and light hearted.

By the end of the set I was left content with the show. Nick’s ability to carry a room on his own is undeniable. The lighting and stage setup were masterfully orchestrated and added a beautiful visual emotion to the entire production.

Thank you to all the artists and their teams for a wonderful night out. Hopefully, we see you back very soon.
