Davey Havok of AFI catches some air.

With Despair Comes Reflection

How does a band rise above their era to become timeless and legendary? Evolve. This is what AFI has done their entire career, they’ve been building a Frankenstein’s monster of punk, hardcore, industrial, goth, and pop for three decades. Through all of these evolutions the band has crafted a live show that resonates and kicks ass. Regardless of the era the band is pulling a song from, they deliver it with the intensity of a fresh hardcore band and the proficiency of a once in a generation band.

AFI tore through a setlist that would make fans of any of their styles happy, kicking the night off with “Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings)”, “On Your Back”, and “17 Crimes”. The songs remained rooted in newer material until they kicked things back to Black Sails in the Sunset with “No Poetic Device”. The one constant was that the audience never let up, singing along to every word. The energy from the crowd and band was infectious, feeding off each other in a symbiotic relationship. AFI is still at the top of their game and I am looking forward to what comes next.
