Now in its twelfth year, the Hopscotch Music Festival returned to downtown Raleigh NC on Thursday September 8th. The annual music festival known for its diverse and wide-ranging lineups, that included more than 100 bands, has had to scale back from previous years. After taking 2020 off due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival returned last year in a more compact, primarily open-air format with main stages located at City Plaza on Fayetteville Street and Moore Square Park.
This year’s festival followed the smaller footprint of last year with a few additions. While some late-night club shows have been added back, primarily at The Pour House and Slim’s, and the traditional Day Parties were back in full swing, we couldn’t help but playfully dub the festival “Halfscotch”. While we would love to see the Festival return to it’s large-scale roots, we happily headed to downtown Raleigh to brave the thinner crowds and catch some bands, both familiar and new to us.
