Is this the end of the road? Iconic funk pioneer George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic are on a run of coast-to-coast tour dates this summer dubbed the ‘Just For The Funk Of It! Final Tour?!?’ Seeing as this tour comes after a farewell run last summer, we are not so sure.
However, when the tour stopped at the Ritz in Raleigh NC last Wednesday, August 9th, we were not taking any chances at missing the opportunity to catch Clinton and the mighty Parliament-Funkadelic on what might be their last run together. Opening the show in Raleigh fell to genre-defying ‘80s rockers Fishbone. Fishbone got the crowd moving with their wild and contagious mix of ska, punk, funk, soul and more. After Fishbone left the crowd wanting more, the lights dropped and the stage literally filled with members of Parliament Funkadelic and the man himself, George Clinton. The 15-piece band then proceeded to level the room with their intergalactic funk. George was out front interacting with the crowd for most of the show, only taking occasional breaks to sit center stage letting the talented members of Parliament share the spotlight. It was a fantastic evening and a show you really should catch if you are lucky enough to get the opportunity.
