Photo Gallery: The Black Crowes + Billy Tiballs @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Vancouver – April 16th 2024

An luscious, immaculate stage set greeted enthusiastic concertgoers on this Tuesday evening. The Black Crowes were touring behind their first new music in a decade and a half, ‘Happiness Bastards,’ and they celebrated the new tunes and tour with a sort of steampunk rock circus set-up with shimmering gold draperies, strings of lightbulbs, a wall of vintage amps, and bare stage walls showing off the electrical conduits normally hidden from view. The band got the crowd in its collective dancing feet right out of the gate, outfitted in gold and brocade and putting forth plenty of swagger and big vocals and bigger guitars. Opening the show though was a younger artist Billy Tiballs, who warmed up the room beautifully. Folks stayed seated and some seats had yet to be filled so early, but their garage-rock sound and vibrant stage presence evoked a sort of Strokes/T-Rex vibe and seemed to surprise a lot of the audience members, who chatted about wanted to check them out further between sets. Proper rock n roll night out!
