Shovels And Rope @ Commodore Ballroom – November 9th 2016

Shovels & Rope is the husband and wife duo Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, hailing out of Charleston, South Carolina. Their music leans more towards Americana (alt. country and roots), but they know how to turn up the volume and rock out. Being a married couple, it is clear the strong connection that they have, creatively and emotionally. Much of the concert they stared intently into each others eyes as they played and sang, and when they shared a mic to sing together they moved in as close as they could get.

The fun of seeing these two play together is watching them swapping instruments. During different songs they each took turns on drums, guitar and piano. Thanking their Vancouver fans, they made mention of the recent US election, and were clearly happy to forget about politics for a couple of hours and play their music to an appreciative sold-out crowd.
