I first covered The 1975 back in 2013 when they played Venue, the 500-person-capacity nightclub in Vancouver. Since then, the group has grown their fans base exponentially and that fan base has become rabid just to catch a glimpse of them.
As I walked into the pit last night, I overheard some concertgoers in the front row mention they had camped overnight to get front and center in the general admission area. That level of dedication seemed crazy to me, but to each their own.
The show was really beautiful. A constant visual journey that I couldn’t take my eyes off.
The band themselves were fun and full of energy. The audience were captivated and the entire venue seemed to be an on-going sing-along.
I wish there was a little less stage smoke for when I was taking my pictures, but that same smoke added to the mystique for the crowd, so I can’t complain that much.
