British Ska legends The Selecter played to an enthusiastic audience in Vancouver at the Rickshaw Theatre on Wednesday nite.
The evening started off with a DJ set from “BodySnatchers”, Special AKA member Rhoda Dakar.
The Selecter took the stage with the 8 piece band consisting of:
Pauline Black – vocals
Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson – vocals
Winston Marche – drums
Will Crewdson – guitar
Luke Palmer – bass guitar
Lee Horsley – keyboards
Neil Pyzer-Skeete – horns
Orlando LaRose – horns
The show was initially to be a dual headlong tour with English Beat, but that band had to cancel dates and subsequently, the Selecter fans were lucky to have the chance of hearing a longer set. Songs from the evening consisted of their Ska hits “On My Radio”, “Missing Words”, “Three-minute hero”. Lead vocalist Pauline Black mentioned that Vancouver was their first show ever in North America, but ended it there.
The encore consisted of Rhoda Dakar performing “Let’s Do Rocksteady”, and joined afterwards by Pauline and Arthur “Gaps” for “Too Much Pressure/Pressure Drop”.
