Sweden’s Smash Into Pieces got the night off to a trippy start, with their drummer wearing a light up mask that changed expressions and shapes throughout their set. The rest of the band sported black light makeup, that revealed symbols on their faces. The whole band delivered an energetic set that primed the audience for the rest of the night.
Decades of Aggression
Swedish metals pioneers and all around flag bearers of the genre In Flames are a force of nature live, bringing decades of experience to every performance. They were in fine form in Seattle, running through a killer set of songs that had something for fans of every era of the band.
Resist and Triumph
Within Temptation kicked their set off strong with “Raise Your Banner” off their recently released album Resist. Lead singer Sharon den Adel flying the band’s banner of three heptagons in a circle. From there it was chest pounding anthem, after chest pounding anthem, giving their fans a night to cherish. The fans ate up every moment, giving it their all, this could be due to the fact that this is Within Temptation’s first North American Tour in five years and first Seattle show in twelve years. From the happy looks on people’s faces, the airtight set of music, and Sharon den Adel’s powerful voice it was worth the wait. Hopefully, the gap between shows will be less than a decade this time.
