The Grammy Award-nominated, multi-platinum alternative R&B game-changer continues a streak of smashing records. OnBillboard’s Hot 100, “The Hills” moves from #2 to #1, actually replacing his own single “Can’t Feel My Face” following its three nonconsecutive weeks on top. This makes him the first artist to rule the Hot 100 successively since 2014 and the first solo male to lead back-to-back on the Hot 100 since 2008. He also became only the 11th act to best himself at #1 over the course of the Hot 100’s 57-year history.
Simultaneously, “The Hills” captures #1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. This solidifies him as the first male artist to rise to #1 with two singles in the same year since 2010.
On the Radio Songs chart, the inescapable song of the summer, “Can’t Feel My Face” remains #1 for its seventh week. It’s officially the year of Madness.
Upon release, Beauty Behind The Madness moved in excess of 412K album equivalents, and debuted at #1 on the Apple Music overall albums chart in over 70 countries and Top 10 in nearly 100. The album is the first to surpass over 100 million global audio streams with over 80 million plays from Spotify, breaking their U.S. and global record for most streams in a single week. The album became the second-largest weekly overall unit total for an album in 2015, trailing only Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
In another fete prior to release, Beauty Behind The Madness moved in excess of 1 Million album equivalents worldwide with four of the tracks from the album reaching platinum or multi-platinum status. “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)” has been certified 4x platinum, “Can’t Feel My Face” (2x platinum) and “The Hills” (3x platinum), and platinum “Often”, all as recognized by the RIAA.
The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, tapped a dream team of producers for Beauty Behind The Madness including Stephan Moccio, with whom he collaborated on the quadruple-platinum “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey),” Max Martin, Illangelo and more. The tracklist also boasts feature appearances from Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey and Labrinth.
Abel recently achieved a Billboard first when he claimed the top three slots on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs as “Can’t Feel My Face”, “The Hills” and “Earned It” hit #1, #2 and #3 respectively.
