Why will this be the final year of the #SingItFwd?
We never expected #SingItFwd to be more than a year or two, so we are less focused on the end and more focused on what an amazing run it’s been. After this January we’ll be able to proudly look back on 5 years, 6 shows, 30+ bands, 20+ videos, and hopefully over $200,000 raised for the Saint James Music Academy.
Since this is the last year, can people expect some special surprises at 2016’s shows?
Definitely. In fact, this year both shows’ line ups are big surprises as we won’t be announcing any of the artists. I’ll just say that we have a lot of familiar faces as well as some epic new ones.
With the very personal tie ins you and your wife Ambrosia have with the event, how does it feel for this to end?
As I mentioned before, we’re more proud and privileged to have had this experience and to have shared it with so many. We’re very grateful for the support of all the artists, the community, our partners, volunteers, and of course the SJMA.
Will either of you still continue working with the Saint James Music Academy after #SingItFwd ends?
We’ll keep #SingItFwd alive through some smaller scale events and fundraisers. SJMA is a magical place full of incredible energy and people. We will be connected for life.
Can you drop any hints about any of the artists scheduled for the 2016 installment?
As I mentioned, there’ll be some old and some new. There are 18 artists in total over the 2 nights, and between them there are a great many nominations/awards from The Junos, The Polaris Music Prize, Much Music Video Awards and the Grammy’s…
Any news on the Hey Ocean! front or on any possible solo endeavor? New music or tours for 2016 for either?
Hey Ocean! is still taking a bit of a break, 2016 will see new solo albums from each of us. Mine should be out in the spring. I’ll be on tour in Germany with the Zolas in February and the plan is to continue through Canada and the US.
