When I hear someone describe an artist as a “Youtube sensation”, my mind first goes to an epic fail, or some talented singer playing a cover song on their webcam. Well, that is not the case with Gotye. Is he an internet sensation? I think 130,000,000+ views qualifies as a sensation. Sure, roughly 1000 of those views are from me, but it is still a staggering number of views.
As slightly embarrassing as it is, I first heard of Gotye via a tweet from Ashton Kutcher. This one Tweet from Kelso rocketed the singer Gotye to international stardom. His song Somebody That I Used To Know was everywhere in the late stages of 2011 and early into 2012. The success of this single, and the album Making Mirrors, has lead Gotye to embark on a sold out world tour.
Gotye is making his way to Vancouver on April 18 to play to yet another sold out crowd. His strong voice and his mid tempo songs will sound amazing in the ol’ Granville Street landmark, The Vogue Theatre. Could this be a perfect artist/venue pairing?
