So, the show was changed to a headlining set by Asking Alexandria. Which is fine by me.
Opening the show was Texas-made band Crown The Empire. They brought a fun energy to start the night, stirring the crowd up and getting them excited and involved. The lead singer Andrew Velasquez, aka Andy Leo, has a captivating stage persona. He taunts the crowd but walks that line between instigator and joker. At one point, someone from the crowd threw a beer at him and he took a moment to try to call the perpetrator out but then just laughed the whole thing off.
By the end of the set, the audience was revved up and ready to keep rocking.
Soon enough, Asking Alexandria stormed out to the stage and quickly attacked their set.
They were aggressive but composed. Each member took their turn standing in the spotlight, showing off their deep range of talents.
The light show behind them was impressive. A stream of ever-shifting colours darting around the stage. It added a great balance to the overall visuals.
I quickly forgot this was supposed to be a co-headlining show. This group was putting on a headlining set that almost felt too big for the venue. I was thoroughly impressed.
The night started out with “Into The Fire”, the single from their 2017 self-titled studio release, and went on heavy through the night.
By the end of the show, I was satiated. They had filled my need for some exciting music.
Thank you to both bands for a fun night out. Let’s hope Black Veil Brides can make it to town in the near future.
