Live Review: Dermot Kennedy + Kevin Garrett @ Rogers Arena, Vancouver – May 6th 2023

On Thursday, May 4th, I learned I would be photographing Dermot Kennedy at Rogers Arena on Saturday.

I received a wonderful little treat when I learned that one of my all-time favorite singers, Kevin Garrett, would be opening for the Irish artist.

After getting ready and gearing up with my camera, favorite black shirt, and favorite flannel, I gunned out the door towards Rogers Arena to attend Dermot Kennedy’s concert.

My heart was excitedly beating as I swayed between the sea of people steadily moving toward the arena, attempting to find my gate.

Thankfully, I made it to the arena in time to be escorted into the photo pit to see Kevin Garrett perform, and it was incredible.

If you are not familiar with Kevin, he is an American singer-songwriter from Pittsburg. While you might not know him, you have definitely heard his work: Garrett co-wrote and co-produced the leading single “Pray You Catch Me” in Beyonce’s Lemonade, which earned him a Grammy nomination.

The arena continued getting packed. Eventually, it was Dermott’s turn to come out and wow the crowd.

The Irish singer came on stage and had the crowd swaying to his heartfelt lyrics and powerful voice. He opened with his popular son Blossom, followed by Power Over Me and One Life.

Vancouver is known for its Irish population, and if you looked at the crowd, you could see Irish flags all over the arena.

The European singer made sure to end the show on a high note with Kiss Me, and Something to Someone.
