Live Review: Lewis Capaldi + Medium Build @ Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, Vancouver – April 25th 2023

Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi performed at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver, BC last night, with act Medium Build from Anchorage, Alaska opening the show.

The openers were incredibly enjoyable to listen to and profoundly passionate. They delivered a soulful set that had the audience silent and staring by the second song of their display. It was a bit hard to appreciate their performance in such a large arena, they didn’t stop that from earning a new batch of fans.

Once Lewis Capaldi took over, he immediately charmed the crowd with his humor and loveable personality. Between songs, he would engage with the audience, making them laugh with his witty banter. However, it was Lewis’s vocals that truly stole the show. His powerful voice filled the arena, making it feel more like an intimate nightclub than a stadium. It’s clear that Lewis is destined for even bigger stages and stadiums in the future.

Lewis’s interaction with the crowd was one of the highlights of the show. He was playful and endearing, showing his appreciation for his fans throughout the performance. The crowd, a ravenous fan base, sang in harmony to every song, creating an incredible energy in the arena. At times, Lewis would stop singing and let the echoing vocals of the audience fill the space. It was a truly magical moment, and a testament to the special connection Lewis has with his fans.

Lewis’s set list included some of his most popular songs, including “Before You Go,” “Bruises,” and “Someone You Loved.” His performance of “Lost on You” was particularly emotional, with his soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics moving the audience to tears. “Hold Me While You Wait” was another standout moment, with Lewis’s voice soaring over the crowd as they swayed in unison to the beat.

The encore was an unexpected treat, with Canada’s own Chad Kroeger of Nickelback joining Lewis on stage. The crowd went wild as Chad belted out “Rockstar” and “How You Remind Me,” with Lewis providing backing vocals. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that will be remembered by everyone in attendance.
