Cage the Elephant will begin 2027 with a new album and a renewed willingness to follow their music somewhere unfamiliar.
Dying in Reverse, the band’s seventh studio album, arrives February 5 through Big Loud Rock. The announcement is accompanied by “Make It Easy,” a restless new single Cage the Elephant debuted earlier this week during a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
The song introduces an album shaped through a more immediate and collaborative recording process. Cage the Elephant worked with producers Justin Raisen and Jeremiah Raisen, also known as SADPONY, whose combined credits include projects with Charli xcx, SZA, Kim Gordon, Yves Tumor and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Instead of entering the studio with every destination mapped out, the musicians allowed the songs to develop through experimentation. Ideas were tested collectively, arrangements changed as the sessions unfolded and instinct became more important than maintaining the routines established across the band’s previous records.
That approach can be heard in the tension running through “Make It Easy.” Melody and abrasion push against one another while Matthew Shultz moves between direct singing and a more rhythmic vocal delivery. The track feels energetic without ignoring the unease beneath its surface.
Dying in Reverse draws from garage rock and psychedelia while placing fuzz-heavy guitars around songs concerned with memory, identity and the instability of perception. Its 12 tracks include the previously released “Beaches in Tennessee” and title track alongside new songs such as “Influence,” “Cherry Cola,” “Crossfaded” and “Wear the Daylight.”
The record follows 2024’s Neon Pill, which emerged from a difficult and transitional period in Shultz’s life. The new album was created under different circumstances, with the band approaching the sessions as an opportunity to move forward rather than continue examining the conditions surrounding its predecessor.
That momentum was reinforced while Cage the Elephant supported Oasis during the North American portion of the reunited band’s tour. Performing in that environment renewed the group’s interest in the direct, communal possibilities of rock music and helped carry fresh energy into the recording sessions.
Before the album arrives, Cage the Elephant will perform during the NFL Munich halftime show on November 15. An extensive European tour follows in February, with additional festival appearances scheduled across South America in March.
Dying in Reverse is available to pre-save now. “Make It Easy” can be heard through the band’s official streaming page.
