Swedish House Mafia are back with something new.
The Swedish electronic trio have released their brand-new single, “Happiness Is So Sad,” featuring Lykke Li. The track is out now on all major streaming and download platforms.
The song marks the first collaboration between Swedish House Mafia and Lykke Li, bringing together two of Sweden’s most influential musical exports. It is a fitting pairing. Swedish House Mafia have spent years turning dance music into something massive, emotional, and stadium-sized, while Lykke Li has built her career around heartbreak, longing, and beautifully bruised pop songs.
So yes, the title makes sense.
“Happiness Is So Sad” explores the strange space where joy and sorrow sit beside each other. The idea that a perfect moment can feel painful because it is already becoming a memory. That happiness can arrive with the ache of knowing it will not last forever.
Produced by Swedish House Mafia, PARISI, and Fred again.., the single was recorded in Stockholm and also features Max Martin and Oscar Holter among its songwriters. It received its world premiere with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 on Thursday, July 30th.
The release follows Lykke Li’s sixth album, The Afterparty, which arrived in May. She has also had a busy summer, with performances at Coachella 2026, KOKO London, and the Odeion of Herodes Atticus.
For Swedish House Mafia, the song arrives during their Ushuaïa Ibiza residency, where “Happiness Is So Sad” has already become a major moment in the group’s summer sets. Steve Angello also recently joined Sebastian Ingrosso at Tomorrowland 2026, where the track was played during his highly anticipated set.
The single lands ahead of Swedish House Mafia’s two massive homecoming shows at Gothenburg’s Ullevi Stadium on August 28th and 29th, which will be the group’s largest concerts to date.
