Mackenzie Carpenter is turning heartbreak into a little temptation with her new single, “Kinda Want Your Man,” out now via Big Machine Records.
The ACM Award-nominated singer-songwriter leans into the kind of questionable decision-making that can happen when heartbreak, loneliness and a few drinks collide. Set against a hazy late-night barroom backdrop, “Kinda Want Your Man” finds Carpenter noticing someone she probably shouldn’t and entertaining the idea of trading a broken heart for a little trouble.
Carpenter co-wrote the track with Chris Tompkins, Jamie Moore and Jonathan Hutcherson, with dreamy acoustic instrumentation and her hypnotic vocals giving the song a sultry country-pop feel.
“I had a thought one day that if another woman got to my man before I did, I’d kind of want her man, so I wrote a country song about it,” Carpenter explains. “‘I Kinda Want Your Man’ is a cheeky country confession about the dangerous things loneliness can make you think, but not necessarily do…”
It’s a fun premise that plays directly into one of Carpenter’s strengths as a songwriter: finding humour and personality in situations that might otherwise just hurt. Whiskey, slow songs and late-night loneliness blur the line between what she knows she should do and what sounds pretty good in the moment.
“Kinda Want Your Man” continues a busy year for the Hull, Georgia native. Carpenter has already released “All In Already,” “High Pony” and “Heart That Don’t Break” in 2026, while her catalogue has now surpassed 100 million career streams. More new music is expected in the coming months.
Beyond her own releases, Carpenter has established herself as an increasingly sought-after songwriter in Nashville. Her credits include Megan Moroney’s “I’m Not Pretty” and “Indifferent,” along with the CMA-nominated “You Had To Be There” featuring Kenny Chesney.
Carpenter is also spending much of the year on the road, supporting Jason Aldean on his Songs About Us Tour and Riley Green on the Cowboy As It Gets Tour, along with select appearances alongside Kane Brown and Brad Paisley.
Canadian fans will get their chance to see Carpenter when she joins Jason Aldean at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario on September 17.
