Live Review: Billy Idol @ Coastal Credit Union Music Park, Raleigh – August 23rd 2026
Billy Idol brought his It’s a Nice Day To…Tour Again! tour to Coastal Credit Union Music Park in Raleigh NC, this past Sunday night, August 23rd. The punk-rock icon proved he’s still got plenty of swagger, attitude and stage presence left, leaving no question why several generations of fans packed the venue. At 70 years old, Idol isn’t pretending it’s 1983. Instead, he embraces the present while delivering the songs that made him one of the defining faces of the MTV era.
He opened the night with “Still Dancing,” from his latest album, Dream Into It, before immediately shifting gears into “Cradle of Love,” followed by “Flesh for Fantasy.” It was an ideal start to the show, something new, something familiar, and then straight into the material the crowd had come to hear.
The newer songs fit surprisingly well alongside the classics. “77,” his collaboration with Avril Lavigne, gave the set a more modern pop-punk edge, while “Love Unchained” reached back into Charmed Life. “Eyes Without a Face” offered a completely different side of Idol, allowing him to pull back from the snarling rock-star persona and show that the quieter material still works beautifully in a live setting.

The production was top notch, with large video screens, sharp lighting, and saturated colors creating plenty of visual impact without being overwhelming. But technology was never the focus nor a distraction. This was still fundamentally a rock show built around Idol, His right-hand man and guitarist, Steve Stevens and a catalog that has managed to remain relevant for more than four decades.
Billy Idol is a showman, and there is something genuinely entertaining about watching him lean into that persona. He knows exactly what the audience expects, and he gives it to them without turning the whole thing into a parody. He prowled around. He interacted with his band. He leaned into the audience. He smiled. He joked. He looked like he was having fun.

Then Steve Stevens got his turn. If Billy Idol is the personality of the show, Steve Stevens is the musical muscle. Stevens has been playing alongside Idol since the beginning of Idol’s solo career, and watching the two of them together after all these years was a real treat. Stevens’ guitar solo work included pieces of “Over the Hills and Far Away,” and the “Top Gun Anthem,” and he absolutely owned it with fiery playing and an icy chill while doing it.
As the night went on, Idol worked through “Mony Mony,” “Trouble With the Sweet Stuff,” Generation X’s “Ready Steady Go,” “Blue Highway” and “Rebel Yell.” The encore consisted of a triple shot of “Dancing With Myself,” “Hot in the City,” and the closing anthem of “White Wedding.”
What hit me was that this wasn’t really a nostalgia show. This felt more like watching something that is still happening… And Billy Idol still has it. Maybe his voice has a few more miles on it, But the attitude? The attitude was still there and Raleigh was still listening. Judging by the way everybody left the pavilion, nobody was in much of a hurry for him to stop.
